L.A.G.O.S. (Lakes Area Group Organizing Solidarity for Guatemala) will be
hosting Carrie Stengel and Cody Oesterreich on a presentation tour
throughout the Twin Cities area from April 21-27, 2008. Cody and Carrie
will talk about their personal experiences as human rights accompaniers in
Guatemala, discuss past and present startling realities of Guatemalan
people, and show a photographic exhibit of the Guatemalans involved.

Cody Oesterreich spent twelve months working in rural Guatemala as a human
rights observer. She will be sharing her experience accompanying
Guatemalan National genocide case witnesses. She will give an overview of
the genocide cases, a history of Guatemala's civil war and current
political and social realities in the Central American country.

Recently returned accompanier Carrie Stengel will relate her stories of
working in Guatemala as an observer responding to direct threats to human
rights defenders.  For eight months she worked with indigenous communities
resisting mines, dams, and other large-scale development projects, farm
worker unions defending labor rights, and numerous individuals and groups
challenging entrenched impunity.
