Organic farm 8.03 6pm --------1 of 4-------- From: Roger Cuthbertson <rojo [at] visi.com> Subject: Single payer demo 8.02 12noon DEMONSTRATION FOR SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE A group of us are going to do some bannering and leafleting before the Twins Game this Sunday, August 2, from noon until the game starts, shortly after 1:10 PM. Come and join us! We plan to be located in front of the stadium, more or less between the light rail station and the font doors of the stadium or wherever we can hold some ground in that general area. Look for our bedsheet sized red banner, which will say, "SINGLE PAYER MED CARE FOR ALL!". The banner will be held high on eight foot long 1X2's. Bring a sign, if you have one. If not, you could help hold the banner or one of our signs. If we could get relieved of holding the banner, we could maybe fly a message kite or two with statements in favor of Single Payer Publicly Funded Universal Health Care. It is urgent for us to hit the streets now, as Congress continues its process of whittling down the Public Option plan down to nothing more than a cruel joke. Let's keep demanding what we really want, not settling for the crumbs the insurance industry wants to leave us. Roger Cuthbertson 952-474-2476 and Tom Hooley 651-464-6682 This is going to be fun! Joel, if you can come, please could you bring your guitar as you have sometimes done in the past. The only caution would be that the instrument might get jostled and broken in the crowded environment. So, bring it if you can come and dare do it. Besides these two songs that you could accompany, you have that Medicare Blues that you sing. You could bring some copies of the words to help us all join in. Others might bring instruments, and songs, too if they dare. Does someone want to volunteer to lead the chorus? Be in the chorus? Talk to us. Bring your theater. Bring your messages and your flyers. Tom will have some fliers to pass out. The more, the better. Who will lead the "H M O, You Ugly" cheer? I will be probably flying a kite. I will probably sing, but not bring an instrument. Calling all musicians and singers and demonstrators! Help us out. I hear the singing voices of 300 million Americans demanding Single Payer. They are louder than the din of a baseball game. They are singing the songs everywhere. They can be heard in Washington. They cannot be ignored by Congress. The members of Congress are singing the songs. Their insurance industry lobbyist are backing out the doors of congress singing these new songs. Max Baucus is whistling the Medicare Battle Hymn. Well, we can dream, can't we? See you Sunday. Don't forget to bring your sign or message, if you have one. Viva Single Payer! Roger WORDS, BELOW Subject: Words for 2 Songs for Single Payer Medicare Battle Hymn Mine eyes have seen the wonders of a single payer plan In nineteen sixty five the Congress said, now, yes we can They passed a single payer plan, they called it Medicare And we're so glad it's there Chorus: The lobbyists will try to fool ya THE-Y-- will think up lies to scare ya They work for corporations who are surely not your friends So don't believe their spin We've got to stand together and to fight for what is fair to educate the public and to make them all aware that what we need is public FI-nance linked to private care You'll be so glad it's there chorus http://www.RagingGrannies.com Rock a bye baby Rock a bye baby, don't you get sick Your mom and dad will go broke real quick Grandpa and Grandma wish it weren't true big rich insurers don't care about you Rock a bye tax cuts helping the rich You're out of luck-- if YOUR kid gets sick Health care insurers rack in the cash if you are POOR, they'll treat you like trash Rock a bye profits that's what they love Kids and grand-PA-rents merit a shove Everyone IS in danger it's true Cuz big rich insurers don't care about you http://www.RagingGrannies.com --------2 of 4-------- From: David Shove Subject: Mpls politics/AM950 8.02 3pm James Mayer Of the People with Host James Mayer Join Us Every Sunday Afternoon 3-4 p.m. on AM950 KTNF Minneapolis politics Guests John Kolstad: candidate for Mpls mayor, host of Kolstad Speaker Training Michael Katch: candidate for city council ward 7 David Shove: New Broom Just before and during the RNC convention, a police atate was imposed upon parts of St Paul and Minneapolis. It was supported by both city councils and both mayors. New Broom (sweeps clean) was born at that time: if incumbents waltz to easy re-election, they will conclude they can side with power because we don't mind. Further investigation showed the councils and mayors also unacceptable on many other grounds. The Mpls council and mayor are up for election this November; insurgent candidates across all parties are working together to replace them with honest government. Frequent speaker training offered by Papa John Kolstad has helped bring together candidates of many parties. Kolstad was a reluctant candidate for mayor; he will explain how and why he was convinced to run. Michael Katch is a policy guru running for city council; he will detail some of the shortcomings of the present city government.
