This message is for Tiger Technologies Web hosting customers who use our
Mailman mailing list system (the "Add Mailing List" option in the
account management control panel). Other customers can safely ignore it.
Previous versions of Mailman would unsubscribe users if five or more
messages bounced over several days. The new version will send such users
one additional generic message, and will only unsubscribe the user if *that* messages bounces, too.
We have updated Mailman to the latest version, 2.1.5. This version handles "bounces" (undeliverable list messages) a little differently.
Previous versions of Mailman would unsubscribe users if five or more
messages bounced over several days. The new version will send such users
one additional generic message, and will only unsubscribe the user if *that* messages bounces, too.
This makes sure that if a number of people on your list are discussing a subject that might be blocked by one person's spam filters, that person won't inadvertently be unsubscribed. For example, if five discussion list messages had the subject "Re: How can I stop Viagra spam?", and a list member's filter blocked all the messages because they contained the word "Viagra", previous versions of Mailman would have unsubscribed that list member. The new version of Mailman will send an additional test message that won't contain the word "Viagra" -- and since that message won't be blocked, the member won't be unsubscribed.
The new version of Mailman also has several other small improvements to make it more reliable.
We've tested the new version extensively before upgrading, but of course, if you have any difficulty with your mailing lists as a result of the upgrade, please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you!
