This message contains information for our Web hosting customers who use MySQL databases. If you don't use MySQL databases on our servers, you can ignore this message.
Due to increased MySQL database use on our servers, we have moved all customer databases to a new dedicated MySQL server. This will improve the speed of the databases and reduce the load on our Web servers.
Because of this change, any scripts that use a MySQL database on our servers should be updated to "point" the script at the new address. This message explains how you can make that change.
To change the MySQL address your script uses, just find the address of the MySQL server (often called a hostname) in your script settings, then change the word "localhost" to "mysql2.tigertech.net" (without the quotes).
In other words, your script settings will have the word "localhost" in them somewhere. Just replace that with "mysql2.tigertech.net" and save the changes. That's all it takes, and you shouldn't notice any change in how your script operates after doing this.
If you need assistance making the change, or you'd like us to check that your script is now connecting directly to the new address, just let us know by sending a message to support [at] tigertech.net. We'll be glad to help or change the script settings for you if you wish.
To avoid problems during this transition, we have also installed special software on our Web servers to "forward" MySQL connections from the old address to the new address. This software makes sure that any scripts that still use the old "localhost" address will continue to work. However, such scripts will run more slowly and may be slightly less reliable because of the extra software involved in the connection. To make sure your script continues to work as quickly and reliably as possible, you should change the MySQL address your script uses as soon as it's convenient for you to do so.
There are couple of other changes to our MySQL support as a result of moving the databases. The first is that only the previous night's MySQL backup is now stored in your "backups" folder, although our staff can restore older versions for you if necessary. More information about MySQL backups is available on our support pages:
http://support.tigertech.net/mysql-backups
Secondly, if you're one of the handful of customers who have asked us to
enable remote access to your database so that you can access it directly
from your own computer, you should use the hostname address
"mysql2.tigertech.net" (and not your domain name) to connect. More information about remote access to MySQL databases is available at:
http://support.tigertech.net/mysql-remote
Thank you for reading this message! Although we know that changing the address of the MySQL database in any scripts you use may take a few minutes of your time, the result is faster, more reliable scripts. Again, please let us know if we can do anything to help.
