Dear Tiger Technologies Web hosting customer,
Beginning at 8:10 AM Pacific time today, one of our servers that handles MySQL databases for a large number of customers (and Web site hosting for some others) had technical problems for about 25 minutes. The problem led to some Web sites being completely unavailable, and to other sites having difficulty making MySQL connections.
The technical details are that the particular server was experiencing abnormally high load and not responding properly, so our technicians restarted it. That took less than ten minutes. However, after the server restarted, the backlog of MySQL connections making uncached queries caused the load to remain higher than MySQL could reliably handle for another 15 minutes, leading to "too many connections" errors.
All our servers are now working normally and you should not be experiencing any trouble.
We don't consider any sort of outage acceptable. We plan to make changes to ensure that this problem will not recur; we'll send a followup announcement in the next few days explaining what steps we are taking.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused. We're proud of the usual reliability of our service and we're committed to making sure you can place your trust in us.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We appreciate your business!
