MySQL maintenance at 10:00 PM Pacific tonight

Dear Tiger Technologies Web hosting customer,

This is a followup to our previous message about problems with the "mysql2.tigertech.net" server. That server experienced an additional problem which required it to be restarted again, resulting in several more minutes of unscheduled downtime for some customers.

To prevent any additional outages, we have scheduled maintenance for 10:00 PM (Pacific time) tonight. During that time, the MySQL data from that MySQL server will be moved to different servers (the databases will actually be spread across three MySQL servers). We have tested this process and expect it to take approximately ten minutes; during that period, you may be unable to connect to your MySQL database.

Moving the databases will be done in a manner that is transparent to any scripts that you use on our servers: you will not need to update the server "hostname" or make any other changes to scripts that use MySQL.

(A small number of customers also connect to our MySQL servers using special software on their own computers. These customers will need to change the server hostname they use to make remote connections, but we'll send a separate message about that to the small number of people who are affected.)

Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this will cause, and for the short notice. Please let us know if you have any questions. We appreciate your business!
